Sawtooth in the Fall (and in the Wrong Location)

I erroneously thought I could finish this painting in just two more sessions. (This could be called The Triumph of Hope Over Experience.) My painting sessions are shorter than I like right now. Some of this is because the tech troubles continue, necessitating a trip to the Apple Store in Fresno (to no avail). Since the cabin is closed, I’ve been spending time in the yard too. Tryna do it all quickly before the weather turns wet and cold (coldish, in case my Montana or Nova Scotia friends are reading).

What an enormously satisfying project this has become now that I am to the stage of drawing with my paintbrush.

Are these two photos the same? Something might be different. . . OH! It is more detail in the white water. Obviously I am not doing my normal painting from back to front and top to bottom on the large canvas.

I got very immersed in the details.

Final look from the latest painting session. I will need to put some time and distance away from this because I have lost my objectivity.

I might also have to find a lower easel, or stand on a stepladder to be able to continue with detail in the upper areas.

This is Sawtooth Peak, moved north with liberal use of my artistic license, in Mineral King, along the Nature Trail at a place referred to by multiple names: Iron Springs, The Spa, and Where Everyone Gets Off the Trail To Reach the Water.

Do you have a name for this place?

Do you have a title for this painting, other than something like Sawtooth #70?

  1. It’s so pretty! I can almost hear the water burbling over the rocks! Is burbling a word? It got underlined by my spell checker. I’m terrible at naming things. But something to do with autumn and the water? I’m sure I was very helpful there! ?

    • Burbling Autumn Water? Wet Autumn? Watery Fall? Autumn at the Creek? Prolly gonna be Sawtooth #70. Sigh.

What do you think?
