Painting my Obsession

If you receive these posts in email and the pictures in the post don’t show for you, tap here janabotkin.net. It will take you to the blog on the internet.

I thought this painting was finished and was about to scan it when I realized it was missing something important.

Snow covered mountains in the distance! White is the slowest color to dry, so it will be a week or two before this one is ready to scan.

This one needs definition in the distant groves and detail in the foreground branches.

I am just making stuff up now. As long as it is believable, it’ll do.

This will take awhile, lots of painting sessions to try this, that, and something else.

Saturday night, remember to spring your clocks forward because Daylight Saving Time begins. It isn’t saving any daylight, merely shoving it an hour later so that mornings are dark again. There is talk of making it permanent, but those who think that is a good idea aren’t thinking ahead to waiting until 8 a.m. to see any daylight in the fall and winter months. I say leave the time right where it belongs and quit jerking us around.

So there.

  1. Hi Jana! I needed that reminder about Daylight Savings Time. I hate springing forward 🙂 Have been hearing about flooding in Central CA. Are you guys doing okay there in Three Rivers? Take care!

    • Cheryl, you are hearing correctly! We got 4-1/2″ last night, and there are lots of mandatory evacuations in Three Rivers. We couldn’t afford riverfront when we bought here 24 years ago, so we are fine. Thank you for checking in! (I am shocked that Central California has registered on the news in Kansas – we are “flyover country”!)

    • We aren’t used to this kind or rain, but they say California is almost completely out of our years (and years) of drought, so trying to be thankful. I say we should be called Califoregon with all this rain!

      • Califoregon! Outstanding, Gina!

  2. All your “fussing” definitely improved the paintings, in my humble, layman’s opinion.

And Standard Time, Daylight Saving Time, pick one and STAY THERE! (I love people who say “I prefer Daylight Saving Time because it’s stays lighter longer.” Um, the amount of daylight doesn’t change; just your clock!)

    • Sharon, thank you for noticing and appreciating the improvements from my fussing with paintings.

You are exactly right about people thinking they have gained more daylight. So silly, so shortsighted. I HATE the big adjustment of pushing the clock ahead. Takes several weeks to stop being messed up from it. JUST PICK ONE! It is man’s attempt to control things which are not controllable, not in his purview.
