A Painting Break

Because my self-imposed drawing quota for The Cabins of Wilsonia was met for February, I used the last week of the month to knock out a few oil paintings. Two are commissions, and the rest are to sell at the Three Rivers gallery Colors.

Here they are in progress:

Kind of nice to be working in color again. Smells funny, though.

  1. Hi Jana,

I’m reading back over older posts too and catching up.

I enjoyed seeing the paintings and your impressions (that has to be an art pun!) of the Art Institute in Chicago. Seeing that Seurat large across the screen, and the Monet… ahh. Art inspires. I spent some time in a Van Gogh museum in the Netherlands years ago, and was captivated by his thick swirls, and the novelty of seeing paintings I recognized from art classes, finally live in front of me.

Fun to catch the typo with you, and to see the windy city in your photos,

    • Thanks for stopping by, Jennifer! There is something captivating about seeing things in person that have only appeared in textbooks or on the screen.

  2. The smell is the best part!! Love the smell of paint even though it is not good for us. Oh well. Great paintings, love the one of the bridge. Have a good weekend!

    Hugs,
    Melissa

    • Melissa, I’ve noticed the paint doesn’t smell very much, nor does my “odorless” turpentine. But the linseed oil, oh my! And the spray varnish – wowsa.

    • Thanks, Catherine! As much as I love to draw, it was really fun to mess around with color again. I thought the pear and pomegranate were especially successful this time.
