Last Mineral King Visit of the Season

Cabin closing isn’t very fun. It is bittersweet, with so many conflicting emotions. How can this summer be over? Thank goodness I won’t be driving up and down the road and can be home for a pair of minutes! Will the cabin be okay? Will the road make it through the predicted El Niño? How many friends won’t make it back next summer? Will my treasures* survive? So happy to be home!

See what I mean?

Let’s just have some photos. You can see that the bright colors are mostly gone. Everything is muted now.

The Yellow Tunnel is very subdued.
Crystal Creek is sluggish.
I confess to brightening the colors on this photo.

A couple of neighboring cabin vignettes for you. (Nope, not putting ours on the World Wide Web!)

Those dudes are taking a photo of their wives taking a photo of them.
Maybe I’ll paint Sawtooth like this for next year to sell at Silver City Resort.
Farewell, Farewell.

*My treasures are a weird little collection of special rocks and found items. It’s a bit odd for someone who fancies herself a minimalist wannabe.

MINERAL KING TEE SHIRTS NOW AVAILABLE!

Would you like a Mineral King tee shirt? You can preorder now, here: https://mineral-king-preservation-society.square.site/ Trail Guy and I designed these a number of years ago, and then turned it all over to the Mineral King Preservation Society to use as a fund raising method. This year I got to help choose the shirt colors. 😎

  1. Love the pictures JB! There’s something special about this time of year in MK!

    • Thanks, Dan! It is a fleeting moment of great color, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it time of year.
