Mineral King Bridge In Paint

We all know that procrastination is not a virtue. However, I’d like to present a few benefits to procrastination:

1. Sometimes the problem fixes itself.

2. Sometimes new knowledge or skill is acquired so the difficulty diminishes.

3. Sometimes the problem becomes a moot point.

4. Sometimes someone else takes care of it.

I’ve been contemplating an oil painting of the Mineral King bridge for several weeks. In the meantime, I’ve made progress on my Huge (yet unrevealed) Project, finished a pencil commission, assembled a new spinning card rack, finished some other pencil drawings, prepared for the upcoming student art show, decided on and ordered covers for my display screens, completed the application for the next Studio Tour, and many other things that might bore you right off this page.

Finally, I’ve run out of excuses. The real reason for procrastination in this case is a little embarrassing: when I’ve gone several weeks without painting, I get a little fearful that I won’t be able to remember how to paint.

Then, when I begin a new painting, my fears appear to be confirmed. Sigh.

p.s. Don’t worry, CL, it WILL get better. They always do!

  1. Cathy, glad you got your little message! Didn’t want you to think your faith in my painting ability was misplaced.

Melissa, isn’t it comforting to know all procrastination isn’t bad? And I try to never wash dishes more than once a day; if I can arrange it to my satisfaction, every other day suits me just fine too. Sometimes, in that situation, reason #4 takes care of them. 😎

  2. Thanks for the “heads up” Jana regarding the bridge painting

  3. There are good and not so good procrastinations. Not doing your bills is not good. Not doing the dishes IS good!! At least for me! Actually I do my dishes, just not 2 seconds after I have put the last forkful of food into my mouth like my ever efficient Mother does. LOL!!! Love the procrastination list!

  4. Love the positives you listed that can come from procrastination. Makes me want to procrastinate and see what happens! 🙂

    • Cheryl, I’m not usually a procrastinator, so when I find myself putting off a difficult task, it helps to explore the reasons why. Then it really helps to find it isn’t all bad. Glass half full and all that. . .
