Your Opinion Sought

Greetings, oh Gentle and Faithful Blog Readers.

Last year I printed a calendar of paintings.

This year I have only been working on The Cabins of Wilsonia drawings and a few commissioned paintings. I don’t have any new paintings for a calendar.

On my computer there are 21,500 photographs. With the help of my husband’s honest and strong opinions, I have chosen 12 of those photos.

Now, I seek your opinion.

Shall I turn these into a calendar? Or are there enough calendars out there in the world? You all know me as a pencil artist, a painter, and a portrayer of the beauty of Tulare County. But, will anyone care enough to buy a calendar from me of photos of Tulare County?

It includes Sequoia, Mineral King (duh), and Three Rivers. Yes, I occasionally go to Visalia or Exeter, but please forgive me for not including either of those locations.

Thank you for reading, for considering this question and for responding!

LATE BREAKING NEWS – Great positive response from you all! The calendars will probably be between $20-25 and that will include shipping. They will have staples for the center instead of the spiral thing. The paper might be stronger than last year. They will have squares for writing. The folded size will be 8-1/2 x 11 (like copier paper). And Mary Jo, I will look through my photos and see if there is something that fits your very good suggestion. Katie, I’m with you – would love to do a year of nothing but fall photos. . . might be a bit too odd for normal people. (We’re special, don’t you know?)

  1. I love the photos! I think it’s an excellent idea. I do like a larger calendar— but this size works for me as a pretty-visual day timer to travel with. The paintings from last year made me smile every time I opened it!

    • Thanks for putting in your vote, Anne. It is always nice to hear from you!

  2. These are beautiful, Jana. I would definitely buy one.

  3. Jana – They are beautiful – and I would buy this quicker than the commercial ones.

  4. Great photos and yes they would make a wonderful calendar. Now the question is how much and would folks pay? Since I donate to numerous charities, I receive 15 – 20 calendars for free every year. All nice photos though none are of Mineral King Area. I end up donating all but about 3 of the calendars I get to a poor school district where a friend of mine is a principal. She distributes them to her staff. However, if you did a wall calendar of Mineral King photos with nice large 1 1/2″ wide by 1 1/4″ squares to write appmnts and events in, I would probably buy a couple of them assuming they were $15 or under with shipping.

  5. Looks good to me, I would like to buy two. Connie

  6. I would definitely buy it! We need more photos showing 3R and the Parks are beautiful, year-round, and your photos are great!

  7. I’d love a calendar with those pictures! However I’m looking for a fullsize calendar with numbers big enough to read from a distance and room to write in the date boxes. I bought 20 full size calendars for Christmas Gifts last year and would love to support local artists again this holiday.

  8. Hi Jana,

Just happened to be at the computer when this came up. I like all of them. My only suggestion would be for March. Do you have one with more color? I think you have enough of a following to sell these. And what could be more lovely than where you live and love? People will like the pictures even if it Timbuctu.

    Love, Mary Jo

  9. I think it is a great idea. I’d buy several to give to my brother and sisters. Works for me. Maggie

  10. Yes, I would love to have another calendar! The smaller size fits perfectly in the wall space of our Mineral King cabin, so you would have at least one sale. 🙂

And if you did offer one, I would put the word out as best I can on Facebook and our MKDA e-list. Happy to help!

  11. Yes! Where do I send my check?
