Sawtooth Peak Oil Painting Continued

The layers continue to build on Sawtooth Peak, an oil painting.

As it was when you last saw it:

Another layer added to the sky:Another layer added to Sawtooth:

Another layer added to the lower ridges:

And more added to the lower ridges:Yo, Professor Layer, may I be finished with the sky and the peak and the lower ridges now? (Can you see Trail Guy’s visor in the background as he adds grommets to the Kaweah Artisans banner?)

When this dries, I’ll put in branches at the bottom edges. I think this wants greenery, or maybe it is fine as it is. . .

What do you think??

  1. Morning Jana,

Part of me thinks it is SUCH a majestic painting it does not need greenery. But then, I love greenery in most paintings, it softens and is warm. Good luck! Hugs!!

    • Melissa, the greenery is coming! Without it, it reminds me of decorative motel paintings that match bedspreads. 😎

  2. Each added layer is quite subtle, and if I didn’t have the previous version with which to compare, I probably wouldn’t have noticed any changed!

My opinion, FWIW. I’m sorry you took away the branches of the bush in the foreground. I would like to see it back. It adds color interest and balances out the upper-left-heavy part with something interesting in the bottom right.

Very pretty, though! Is this a commission, or just-’cause?

    • Sharon, this is a “spec” painting – speculating that it will sell. The branches will all return when the other layers are dry and when I finish with Louise’s book and when I finish with 2 commissioned pencil drawings. Maybe. That’s my plan – is God laughing yet?

      • Ah, yes. The ubiquitous “To Do” list. I know it well!

  3. Looking good!

    • Thank you, Donna! It is always encouraging when a painting looks good BEFORE it is finished.
