Mineral King in November

It is Friday, and I have some recent Mineral King photos for you. Trail Guy and a friend went up the hill for a day. He is retired, I am not. That’s okay – he provides photos for you who love Mineral King and I post them. We are a team here.

Check out the red tree at the Sweet Ranch.

That is a hornet’s nest near the Tar Gap parking lot (1/2 mile below the end of the road.)

Say hello to Steven!

Snow? But Steven was wearing shorts!

Yep. Snow.

Now, time for a Samson update. He is still cute, and he is still biting us.

Hey, Samson, these turkeys are not your friends.

After Trail Guy took this photo, he rescued Samson from the aggressive birds. That little dude is fearless. Better not get too attached, because he might try to befriend or even challenge a bobcat.

Sure, try to not get attached to this bundle of joy. He’ll attach himself to you with his teeth!

Is Samson stalking the coffee mug??

  1. One of the most effective methods is to just walk away when he starts to bite. And reward with hugs and petting when he doesn’t.

    • Hard to walk away when he is attached with his teeth at my ankle. And hard to hug and pet when it results in biting. But in theory, that is all correct!

  2. Samson sure is beautiful! Hope he stops biting people – and gets to live a nice long life!!! Leah

    • Leah, there is just no guarantees with pets around here. We are working on training him to stop attacking us but it is very slow going in terms of seeing any progress.

  3. Thank you for the Mineral King photo fix! Hoping for a lot more snow than that!

Regarding Samson, have you done any research on biting and how to train cats not to? And have you considered keeping Samson in indoor cat, away from all the dangers and nasties that lurk outside?

    • Sharon, no kidding about the snow! But it is still early. . .

Yes, we have learned about training kittens to not bite and that it is a problem with singletons. We aren’t consistent enough with the training, but he is backing away sometimes when I hiss at him. We got him to be a gopher-getter, and he is way too destructive to be an indoor cat.
